My Atari Computer Collection...

This is my collection of Atari Computers.   My first computer was the Atari 800XL.  I received it for Christmas in 1984, when I was 13 years old along with a 1050 5.25" Disk Drive.  About 5 months later, I foolishly spilled some coke on the keyboard, and the computer would not work anymore!  So we took it in for repairs at our local Atari repair center, in yes, Sunnyvale California!  A few weeks later we called to get the status of the repair as I was getting anxious!  The repair center informed us that they somehow lost it and offered us a Brand New just released Atari 130XE for the trouble!!!  Can you resist an offer like that?  That was a very exciting day for me!  I had not even heard about this new upgraded model with 128k...  I quickly learned about computers on that machine and it served me well for a few short years.  During that year, Atari also released the incredible 16-bit Atari 520ST and 1040ST systems!  The ST was a must have for any Atarian!  I remember drooling over it in STart magazines!  Since I was a kid I figured I would try and get the 520ST, instead of the 1040ST since it was cheaper.  I had to sell my Atari 130XE to save up for the Atari 520ST.  Once I had most of the money my Dad offered to help with the rest.  In the fall of 1986 we bought a brand new Atari 520ST computer, SC1224 Color Monitor and SF354 3.5" Disk Drive!  That was one nice system!  But due to a recurring degaussing problem on the SC1224 monitor, I later returned it for a refund due to frustration.  During this time I had also been eye balling the Commodore-Amiga 1000 system, but it was way more than I could afford.  After talking with my Dad, he offered to pay the difference so I took the deal!!  But I was always fond of the Atari computers all these years... Fast forward to the year 2000!  While on eBay I spotted a mint Atari 1040STf with SC1224 monitor!  I was intrigued so I placed a bid!  Low and behold I won!!  I guess I had a longing urge to relive my Atari Nostalgia!  I was hooked.  Ever since then I have acquired almost all the models for my collection.......

How Acquired This was acquired for free in 2003 from Bravo Sierra Computers in Portland, Oregon.  He was clearing out some unwanted items and offered a lot of stuff for free, so a good friend of mine and I drive down there from Seattle to pick it all up!  This model is the rare original model with no RF Modulator and has the TOS Boot ROMs!  You have to use a TOS Boot disk to boot it up.  The problem with this is the TOS ROM image is around 256K so you are only left with 256K of RAM!  Making it almost unusable.  Interestingly this configuration was called the 260ST in Europe!

I also bought a boxed 520STm from eBay in 2003 for $10.

How Acquired This was acquired for free in 2003 from Bravo Sierra Computers in Portland, Oregon.  He was clearing out some unwanted items and offered a lot of stuff for free, so a good friend of mine and I drive down there from Seattle to pick it all up!  This model actually has 1MB of RAM (uncommon) and a Single Sided Floppy Drive, which was standard.  Only the later batches included the Double Sided drive like the Atari 1040ST.  The problem is that most games are on DSDD disks so they will not load on this unit without an upgrade.

How Acquired I had been eyeing this rare model for a while, but the price was always over $300 on eBay.  In 2004 there was a music store selling a bunch of Atari stuff.  I spotted them selling a New in Box Atari Mega STE computer!  This was the first time I ever saw a new one sold!  Usually they were really trashed and discolored and they always ended up too expensive.  I placed a bid but was quickly outbid. A week later they had another one up for auction!  I was outbid again!  I then decided to email the seller directly and ask if they had any more.  They did!  They agreed to sell me one for $175!!!  It did not come with a Hard Drive though.  But I can always buy one later.  The model came with TOS 2.05 and 1MB RAM.  I upgraded it to TOS 2.06 and 4MB.

How Acquired This Atari TT along with a 19" Moniterm Monochrome monitor was acquired in 2004 from a local guy selling it for $50!!!  That was one incredible deal.  It worked fine but the case and keyboard was in pretty bad shape and yellowed. So I bought a NEW top case and keyboard from Best Electronics!  So now this rare gem is a restored beauty!  In July 2005 I got the matching PCT1426 monitor from the great DoomMaster himself!!!
